Pattern

Chain 68. Chain should be 54 cm long.

Row 1: Hdc in 2nd ch from hook and in each across, turn. (67 hdc)

Row 2-5: Ch 1, hdc in back loop of each st across. (67 hdc)

This is the first strap. Fasten off and turn work. Sl st into back loop of 14th hdc.

Row 6: Ch 1, hdc back loop of same stitch and in next 40 hdc across, turn leaving remaining hdc unworked. (41 hdc)

Row 7-11: Ch 1, hdc in back loop of each st across. (41 hdc). This is the space between the straps and should be about 15 cm at the end of Row 11.

Row 12: Ch 1, hdc in back loop of each st across. Ch 8, turn. (41 hdc, 8 ch)

Row 13: Hdc in 2nd ch from hook and in each st across to end. Ch 8, turn. (47 hdc)

Row 14-17: Ch 1, hdc in back loop in each across. (48 hdc) After Row 17, this section should be as wide as the first section. This is the second strap. Fasten off.

Assembly

1. Fold the finished piece in half and sew together the tops of the straps.

2. Whip stitch up the side of of the bag until there are 8 remaining stitches (or 16 if counting both halves of the strap) on the short side, leaving an opening big enough to fit the long strap on the opposite side through. Sew the other side of the bag until there are 13 remaining stitches.

3. Weave in loose ends. Ta-da!
