Triple Block Blanket
Size
Gauge: It’s easiest to measure each block for the appropriate length and adjust the number of rows worked as needed. Some worsted weight yarn is thicker than others so the gauge won’t be standard.
Finished Size: 57 inches by 74 inches
Materials
Hook: Size I (5.50mm)
Yarn: Worsted Weight
Color A - 35 oz (5 skeins)
Color B - 35 oz (5 skeins)
Color C - 7 oz (1 skeins)
Stitches
Ch = chain
Sl st = slip stitch
Hdc = half double crochet
Pattern
First Block
Ch 193. Chain length must be an odd number of chain stitches if you wish to increase or decrease the size of the blanket.
Row 1: Hdc in 2nd ch from hook. Ch 1, skip next ch, hdc in next ch. Repeat from * across. Ch 2, turn.
Row 2: *Hdc in first ch 1 space, ch 1, hdc in next ch 1 space. Repeat from * across. Ch 2, turn.
Row 3-50: Repeat row 2 until first section measures 20 inches long (about 50 rows). At end of row 50, DO NOT cut color A. Attach Color B. In the next section you will alternate colors, carrying the non-working color as you go. See photos below.
Second Block
Row 51: Using Color B, *hdc in first ch 1 space, ch 1, hdc in next ch 1 space. Repeat from * across. Switch to Color A, ch 2, turn.
Row 52: Using Color A, *hdc in first ch 1 space, ch 1, hdc in next ch 1 space. Repeat from * across. Switch to Color B, ch 2, turn.
Row 53-119: Repeat rows 51 and 52 alternately until second block measures 32 inches long. Remember to carry each color that is not in use while working so that it is available when you need to switch colors. At end of row 119, cut Color A and continue on with only Color B.
Third Block
Row 120: *Hdc in first ch 1 space, ch 1, hdc in next ch 1 space. Repeat from * across. Ch 2, turn.
Row 121 – 170: Repeat row 120 until third block measures about 20 inches long. At the end of row 170 join with Color C and fasten off Color B. Ch 2, turn. (Ch 2 st will count as first hdc st on border when connect after 1st round).
Border
Round 1: *Hdc in first ch 1 space, ch 1, hdc in next ch 1 space. Repeat from * across. Hdc in last st (corner st) and repeat from * across to next corner st. Repeat on each side and join with sl st in first ch 2 st.
Round 2-3: Repeat round 1 and fasten off and weave in loose ends.
