Pattern

Instructions for increasing width

Row 1: Ch 6, dc in 4th chain from hook and in remaining 2 chains. This is the first box stitch.

Row 2: Chain 6, dc in 4th chain from hook and in remaining 2 chains. Holding the new box so that it does not move, turn the first box around to wrong side facing. Sl st into ch 3 sp of first box. Ch 3, 3 dc in chain 3 sp. (2 boxes made).

Row 3: Chain 6, dc in 4th chain from hook and in remaining 2 chains. Holding the new box so that it does not move, turn your work around (clockwise) to bring the ch 3 space of the previous box closer to your hook. The tops of the dc in the previous box will now be next to the last dc you made. *Sl st to the ch 3 sp of the next box. Ch 3, 3 dc in the ch 3 sp.* Repeat ** across (3 boxes made).

Row 4-57: (Repeating row 3) Chain 6, dc in 4th chain from hook and in remaining 2 chains. Turn, sl st in next ch 3 sp. Work 1 box stitch in each ch 3 sp across. Continue to increase until bottom side is about 37 inches long (approx. 57 rows).

Helpful Info

  • This corner-to-corner blanket is made "on the bias" meaning at a 45 degree angle instead of horizontal rows (making a triangle instead of a rectangle when you first start).

  • This pattern uses box stitches: ch 3 and 3 dc.

  • You don't turn at the end/beginning of every row but instead after the first box of the row is made.

  • This pattern is for a rectangle blanket (crib size); most basic C2C blankets form a perfect square.

  • When making this design I had specific dimensions in mind and measured as I worked. The row numbers below are only suggestions and if you find the length or width of the blanket is not to your liking, just continue your repeat rows.

Instructions for increasing length

Place a stitch marker on the side/corner to help with row count. This is the side we will not increase on going forward.

Row 58: Turn work (no chains). Sk 1 dc, sl st in next 2 dc and into ch 3 sp. Ch 3, 3 dc in chain 3 sp.*Sl st to the ch 3 sp of the next box. Ch 3, 3 dc in the ch 3 sp.* Repeat ** across.

Row 59: Chain 6, dc in 4th chain from hook and in remaining 2 chains. Turn, sl st in next ch 3 sp. Work 1 box stitch in each ch 3 sp across.

Repeat Row 58-59 until work is about 54 inches long (about row 79).

Instructions for decreasing sides and finishing rectangle

Be sure to start this sequence on the side opposite of your stitch marker.

Row 79: Turn work (no chains). Sk 1 dc, sl st in next 2 dc and into ch 3 sp. Ch 3, 3 dc in chain 3 sp.*Sl st to the ch 3 sp of the next box. Ch 3, 3 dc in the ch 3 sp.* Repeat ** across.

Repeat this row until you have decreased down to one box stitch and finish off. I've opted to not add a border to this blanket because I didn't want to take away from the look of the color gradient, but feel free to add one!

If you've made this pattern I'd love to see your finished projects! I'm so curious how the other gradient colors would turn out with this C2C pattern. If you opted to use one show me on Instagram!
